time spent in Scouting results in better character development.

Family Focused. Value Driven.

Cub Scouting is a year-round program uniquely designed to
meet the needs of young boys and girls (kindergarten through fifth grade) and their families. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness. Family involvement is an essential part of the program, and parents are encouraged to play an active role. Cub Scouting helps parents make the most of the time they have to impact the lives of their children.

FAQ

What precautions is the pack taking during covid-19?
Our Vision for this year is to reimagine the meeting schedules and locations, offer mostly outdoor and small group activities, and deliver the program in an innovative way.

Please review the below program plan that the pack leadership has adapted and consider how this will suit your expectation for a fun and safe Cub Scouting year.

  1. We can meet outdoors in groups of 25 or less, and indoors in groups of 10 or less.
  2. The Den is the core of the program and all programing this year will happen at the Den level.
    1. No monthly Pack meetings unlike a traditional year.
    2. Two Den meetings per month as outdoor outings in our local community: hiking, fishing, biking, BMX track riding, model rockets, orienteering, scouting skills and many others taking advantage of our parks, trails, lakes and rivers.  Meeting at homes is allowed if proper precautions are met.
    3. The Den leaders will publish a calendar at the beginning of the year to help families coordinate these outings with rain dates built in to catch up.
  3. The Dens will work on Adventures on these outings, and some advancement requirements may be assigned as family homework with parents entering completed activities in the online advancement management site Scout Book.com.
  4. The Pack has purchased custom printed face Buffs with our logo for all youth and have given them out to the kids we’ve seen at the Food Drive, and to parents and leaders for $10 each.  We are all required to wear face coverings at ALL Scouting events.
  5. Awards will be distributed at Den ceremonies monthly to recognize the Cubs’ hard work and achievement.
What will my child learn in cub scouts?
Do your best. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Scout Oath
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty
To God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
What Will my child do in cub scouts?
Cub Scouts progress from rank to rank, learning new skills as they go. Each of the ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements. As Cub Scouts get older and advance through the ranks, the requirements become more challenging to match their new skills and abilities.
Will my Child need a cub scout uniform?
Yes, Cub Scouts do have a uniform. The class A uniform is worn to den and pack meetings, and the class B is worn during campouts or outside activities. We have more information about the cub scout uniform here.

What are my responsibilities as a Parent?
In Cub Scouts, parents play a important role in their Cubs advancement. Cub Scouting is a family program where some of the requirements are completed at home. Akela is a symbol of wisdom, authority, and leadership. Akela is anyone who acts as a leader to the Scout. Akela can be a Cubmaster, Den Leader, parent or teacher depending on where the guidance takes place. In den meetings, it is the Den Leader who is Akela. During pack meetings it is the Cubmaster. At home, the parents fill this role. Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement, chose Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book as a source of symbolism and allegorical framework for the youngest members of the Scouting movement.
Is Cub scouts safe for my child?
The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on providing the most secure environment possible for its youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA has developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with multiple online and print resources for all Scouting programs.

All leaders are required to complete Youth Protection training. All parents are encouraged to take the training. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be registered. For more information about Youth Protection, please see BSA’s Youth Protection website at www.scouting.org/youthprotection.aspx.
